Greetings, Groove-ophiles! The Black Widow takes it to the streets and gets down to the nitty gritty in her second solo outing in Amazing Adventures #2 (July 1970). "The Young Warriors" isn't a teen super-hero group, but a group of regular teens fighting the law for a good cause...forcing Madame Natasha to choose sides between the militants and the establishment. It's Groovy Age, ripped-from-the-headlines relevance done up in the mighty Marvel-style by Gary Friedrich, John Buscema, and John Verpoorten! Dig it!
Eeyew. Uninspired Buscema pencilling finished by Verpoorten's minimalist inking. The cover wasn't so great either (Mr. Fantastic's one white finger always bugged me). The Black Widow didn't really take off until the arrival of Gentleman Gene Colan with the next issue.
ReplyDeleteThat initial scene with the director takes on new resonances considering recent Hollywood news!
ReplyDeleteAny J.Buscema is great. Probably working 3-4 books at the same time.
