Black (and White) Friday: "Hunger of the Slaughter-Sludge Beasts!" by Moench and Suso
Season's Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Here in the U.S. of A., today's the day when people shrug off their turkey-induced comas and get up in the middle of the night to battle (sometimes literally) the raging mobs in an effort to save money on Christmas gifts at overcrowded stores offering ridiculously low marked-down prices. Ol' Groove just sleeps in, but there ya go. Anywho, this phenomenon known as Black Friday allows those of us here in Groovy City an extra helping of Black and White Wednesday goodness--just on a Friday (hence our punny, parenthetical title). This year's Black (and White) Friday special is "Hunger of the Slaughter-Sludge Beasts" by Doug Moench and Jusus Suso Rego (better known as plain ol' "Suso"). This eco-terror tale was originally published in (you guessed it!) November (1973) in Psycho #16! Here's hoping those of y'all out there Black Friday shopping don't run into any psychos, yourselves!
As is usual for the Horror Mood, that is a barking mad, yet faintly seedy, slice of unbridled graphic horror. I hadn't read this one before, Groove, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe latter Skywald magazines were painful to read with their talentless, no name Spanish artists and over reliance on gore. They stood in sharp contrast to the first six issues of Psycho and Nightmare, which had some of the top names in the business (including early Boris Vallejo covers) and were the best black and white mags on the stands. Any chance of running those earlier tales?
