Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Another day, another Groovy Age comicbook story featuring computers! Here's the conclusion to last month's Sheldon Mayer/Nestor Redondo Black Orchid two parter! From Phantom Stranger #36 (January 1975), here's "The Crime Computer!"
Fine drawing, but I wasn't too excited about the story. The tease of who or what Black Orchid really was had gone on a bit too long. There needed to be at least some light shed on that.

Did Nestor draw the subsequent Black Orchid stories in Phantom Stranger? I think there were a few more in 1975.
ReplyDeleteFred Carrillo drew the last one in #41. Not sure of the others.

I should have mentioned that this was Nestor's last issue. Fred Carillo drew the final four, which I plan to share.
DeleteI'm a little surprised DC didn't have Black Orchid or Rima the jungle girl cross paths with the Swamp Thing during Nestor Redondo's run on that title.

This is the best incarnation of the Orchid. Mysterious and accompanied by great art. Shelly Mayer knew how to tell great tales. Seemingly simplistic
ReplyDeletebut with a lot of depth and always wholesome.
