Diggin Ditko: "Shadow Doom!"

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! "Shadow Doom!" That title sounds kinda like it would come from an issue of one of Charlton's mystery/horror mags, doesn't it? Or maybe a title to a Ditko-illustrated/Archie Goowin penned tale for a Warren mag? Well, it ain't! Believe it or not, it is the title of a Goodwin/Ditko collaboration, but this one is actually a Captain Marvel story from Marvel Spotlight Vol. 2, #4 (October 1979)! Goodwin delivers a good morality story in the Star Trek vein, but Ditko, as usual, steals the day by showing us what we'd been wondering about for years. How would Marvel's Space-Born Superhero look under the artistic styling of the the illustrator of Charlton's Captain Atom? Like this!

  1. Wow, it's nice to see Ditko still inking his own stuff as late as 1979. Looks great. I had no idea this existed.

  2. Haven't read this one in years. Growing up, I wasn't much of a fan of Ditko's later Marvel work. But his work on Rom changed that for me. I'll have to pull this one out for a read sometime soon.
