Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! It's time for another Tuesday Team-Up! Today's magnificent match-up is about as oddball as it gets as Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu meets up with Marvel's premiere muck-monster, aka the macabre Man-Thing...with a surprise guest-appearance by a fella who looks a whole lot like a mustachioed version of a certain TV kung-fu actor, one David Carradine. It's a mad, macabre masterpiece of mood, martial arts, and mayhem by Steve Englehart, Paul Gulacy, and Al Milgrom, baby! From Master of Kung Fu #19 (May 1974) get ready to "Retreat"!
Hey Groovster!
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece! Now I remember, why I loved Master of Kung Fu so much! Those beautiful covers by Gil Kane/Romita, Paul Gulacy's goregous artwork. Plus all those action packed adventures!
The best of two worlds for a 12 year old back then. martial arts & monsters! The two big crazes of the early-mid 70's! Man this story brought back great memories keep them coming! I wonder if the Man-Thing still exist today in the MU?
I wonder what the Man-Thing would say if he could talk? "FLAME ON!" OUCH! LOL! I would have loved to see Man-Thing VS Man-God/Hugo Danner! Keep up the great job Groovy One!
man, I'd forgotten all about this one. great to see it again. Gulacy was always dropping the famous faces into his comics, wasn't he? I remember Michael Caine and Victoria Principal in one, Marlene Deitrich in another, with Bogart, Peter Lorre, Hendrix, Kirk Douglas, and even Stevie Nicks all turning up at one point or another. and now David Carradine! top bloke, that Gulacy fella!
ReplyDeletenice one, Groove!
