Secret Origins: The Black Panther by Thomas, Giacoia, and S. Buscema

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Ol' Groove has rapped about his love for T'Challa, the Black Panther, in the past, but I've yet to share his awesome origin with ya! Well, today's the day I rectify that particular sitch! In Avengers #87 (January 1971), Roy Thomas, Frank Giacoia, and Sal Buscema adapted the classic Stan Lee/Jack Kirby origin story and expanded it to showcase his first adventure. Check it out!
Cover by John Buscema and John Verpoorten

If ya wanna read the rest of the story (the first adventure Ol' Groove mentioned) latch on to a copy of Essential Avengers Vol. 4! It's grrrrrrEAT! Pax!

I think the minimal design and big shadow areas of his costume on pg 6 are what makes him so cool

  3. Cool post! Haven't read this version of BP's origin before. Maybe I can get it cheap in a Marvel Super Action reprint!
