Bring on the Back-ups: "The Hit" by Cuti and Staton

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! I canNOT believe I haven't run more of E-Man's pal Michael Mauser's back-ups from Charlton's Vengeance Squad mag. However, though Ol' Groove might be kinda forgetful, he does get around to making amends, so... Here's "The Hit" by creators Nick Cuti and Joe Staton from Vengeance Squad #2 (July 1975). Enjoy!

    Groove, your memory's starting to look like MY memory. You posted this story before---almost exactly two years ago to the date. But not to worry. It's the tho't that counts, and one never can get enough of Cuti/Staton/Mauser!

    Nick Cuti's E-Man stories are perfect examples of apparently effort-less and style-less storytelling; they are deceptively simple and plain, but they are really very subtle and witty. Staton's art sure doesn't hurt, either.

    A good story bears repeating. Besides, some newer readers might not have read some of the older posts. BTW, the Mauser pistol is surprisingly popular in comics: Mike Mauser, Jon Sable, Manhunter (the Archie Goodwin/Walt Simonson version), and Dominic Fortune. There are better handguns, but then, the Mauser looks cool, and in a visual medium, that's the important thing.
