Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Dig this Zatanna short from Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane #132 (April 1973), "The Boy Who Never Smiled!" by Cary Bates, Art Saaf, and Vinnie Colletta. This is the kind of Silver Age plot mixed with Groovy Age sensibilities that really hit Young Groove where he lived. Enjoy!
How fun! I totally remember this story! I read it as a kid -- must've been 8 years old. The panels with a bald Zatanna growing a tree out of her head are images that do not fade with time, believe you me!
ReplyDeleteThe embarrassing part is that this means I was reading Lois Lane comics when I was a kid ... guilty as charged I suppose! I was a voracious reader growing up (especially comics) and I would ready ANYTHING.
A fun trip back down memory lane for me. Thanks!
Man alive, I never saw this when it first came out. The local newsstand picked & chose what books they'd carry, thanks to the regional distributor, on a monthly basis. I was 10 when this came out, and I'm sorry I never laid hands on it.
ReplyDeleteEven then, Zatanna was all kinds of hot.
Wow...a definite classic! I also have a friend who cosplays as Zatanna on occasion.
