Dig it, Groove-ophiles! With All-Star Comics #64 (October 1976) Wally Wood takes total control of the art on the revived Justice Society feature (well, at least for this ish and the next)! A lot of ya have been looking forward to this, so "Yesterday Begins Today!" (story by Paul Levitz, don'tcha know) is for you!
Even though this was Wood on the decline, his Power Girl and Superman still couldn't be beat!
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my favorite JSA/Super Squad issues. I loved Wood's Earth 2 Superman and, ahem, his Power Girl was a treat as well. :)
ReplyDelete11 year-old me was blown away by Woody's art. Know what? 51 year-old me is still enchanted by it.
ReplyDeleteAlso thought that Paul Levitz was a much better writer than Gerry Conway, and that the series went from good to great right there. As much as I love the Staton/Layton issues (and I do), how I wish Wally Wood could have stayed on and extended the magic from these two issues.
One of the all-time greatest covers. One of the all-time greatest comic books.
