Decent Comics: "The Gamemaster's Death Wager!" by Bridwell, Newton, and Schaffenberger

Welcome  back for another Seventies Shazam! classic by E. Nelson Bridwell, Don Newton, and Kurt Schaffenberger! "The Gamemaster's Death Wager" is another meeting between Golden Age whimsy and 70s slickness which you either love or hate. It's also cool that they deal with (well, in a way--don't wanna spoil it) the fate Billy Batson's parents. From World's Finest #256 (January 1979), here is "The Gamemaster's Death Wager!"

  1. I can't believe DC has never reprinted any of Don Newton's work on Captain Marvel. I always thought it was too bad they didn't re-introduce the Marvel Family with an approach like this one when DC first got the rights to Cap, Mary, Jr., etc back in the early 1970s. It might have caught on. Instead, it's been endless reboot after reboot for a generation, and none have captured the spirit of the of the character while putting a modern spin on him the way Newton and Bridwell did.
