Black and White Wednesday: "The Incredible Hunk" by Weiss and Gamble

Marvel Eats Its Own Children Department: In Crazy #50 (March 1979) Marvel Comics ran a parody of their most successful TV show of the 70s, Incredible Hulk. With "Incredible Hunk" writer Michael Weiss skewered both the good and the bad of the show, while artist Kent Gamble tossed in more celebrity caricatures than you can shake a gamma-bomb at! Check it out, Groove-ophiles!

    It's peculiar when you realize that all of these movie/TV satires were drawn in a style set by Mort Drucker decades ago, with little alteration. It's as if every superhero artist decided to draw like Murphy Anderson for several generations. The only artist I remember to successfully break away from this approach was John Severin in Cracked, whose caricatures were atypically understated, but on the nose and beautiful as well.

    I recognize Don Rickles as the heckler, Ernsest Bornine as the farmer and Charles Bronson as the gangster. Who is the "love interest? Candace Bergan?
