Decent Comics: "Crisis in the 30th Century!" by Levitz, Pasko, Dillin, and McLaughlin

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We interrupt our regularly scheduled All-Star Comics featuring the Justice Society post to bring you this special Justice League/Justice Society/Legion of Super-Heroes team-up. This particular story actually appears between issues 68 and 69 of All-Star Comics, so we're actually keepin' the continuity truckin' on by sharing "Crisis in the 30th Century!" (by Paul Levitz, Martin Pasko, Dick Dillin, and Frank McLaughlin) from Justice League of America #147 (July 1977, along with JLA #148 coming up on Thursday)--something that even the big ol' DC Showcase reprint of All Star/JSA didn't do! Who loves ya, baby?

  1. There's just something exquisite about these oversized, overwrought, and overcrowded crossovers that tickles my heart. As clunky as the premise might be just seeing these all these heroes in a single story drawn capably by Dick Dillin (a master of the micro-crowd scene) is not something frankly that can be done today. The skill set is just not there. Even the weakest of these crossovers is still cream.

  2. Hey thanks man, this was really great! Love those bright glowing pages. You have have scanned it from an archive volume. Every page looks like a cover. Great creative team, Paul Levitz my favorite legion writer, Pasco, Dillin, ad McLaughlin fine art. Classic plot device. Have to go get something to save someone. That could have been done in a cliched way but using old JLA lore fom their early days made it more interesting.

Only two minor disappointments, dealing with use of characters. First the final team should have had a JLA member to balance then out, not just two JSA. The other is I had hopped for more interaction between LSH members and JSA members. Because the older with the younger. Past and future. Anyway still not dsiappointed in the story. Thanks you!

  3. I loved those JLA comics in the '70's with the JSA team ups, all these crazy characters that I was unfamiliar with. I was a little kid, and it was fun trying to figure out who the heck these people were.
When I saw Wildcat for the first time, I wondered what Batman did with his utility belt.
I figured it out eventually, although Earth-Two Robin took me a little longer.
    This is fun stuff.
