Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! It's back to the beach, and during the Groovy Age, the only way Kid Groove could get sun and sand was in an Archie comic! Pep #258 (July 1971) has a fun "on the beach" story featuring Archie and Reggie vying for the attention of the lovely young nurse at the first aid station. You can guess the shenanigans to come, but hey, it's fun stuff by Tom Doyle, Stan Goldberg, and Jon D'Agostino! Face it, tiger--you've had a..."Stroke of Luck!"

Black and White Wednesday: "The Killer" by Will Eisner
Ol' Groove is ever so thankful that James Warren and the gang published The Spirit Magazine during the Groovy Age. Oh, how I loved that mag! As much as Teen Groove loved the Groovy Age comics, I knew without a single doubt that Will Eisner was an important, timeless creator whose work was made to savor and study. What a genius he was to come up with the storytelling device he used in "The Killer," published in The Spirit Magazine #1 (January 1974)!

Decent Comics: "The Earth Below" by Kraft, Chan, and Carrillo
Check it out, Groove-ophiles! It's the final issue of Swamp Thing's original mag. Ol' Groove has to wonder what writer David Anthony Kraft and artists Ernie Chan (Chua) and Fred Carrillo would have done if they'd been given a few issues, but the world will never know. Oh well, let's head on back to May 1976 for Swamp Thing #24 and..."The Earth Below!"
Wouldn't it have been cool to have seen what DAK had in mind for the Hawkman team-up? But at least Swamp Thing's story continued on-- at the hands of Gerry Conway--in the pages of Challengers of the Unknown starting in issue 82, which you can read beginning right here!

Marvel-ous Monday: "Marak!" by Kirby and Royer
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We have more of the History of Mankind as seen through the cosmic sensibilities of Jack "King" Kirby, ably abetted by inker/letterer Mike Royer. "Marak!" gives us an action packed history lesson on the development of weapons and warfare--and somehow these things lead to the greatest invention of all! What is it? Peel back the cover of 2001: A Space Odyssey #3 (November 1976) and see for yourself, pilgrim!
