Countdown to Halloween 2010! Sunday Funnies: Wrightson Goes Plop!

This is it, Groove-ophiles! We've counted down another dreadfully dy-no-mite 31 days--and it's Halloween once more! Ol' Groove's layin' a double-size treat on ya so we can party like it's 1499! Here come two--count 'em--TWO of Bernie Wrightson's most memorable masterpieces of the macabre, both from--where else?--PLOP!

We'll kick things off with Steve Skeates' immortal "The Gourmet" from Plop! #1 (July 1973). This tale is legendary, and if you've never dug it before, boy are you lucky!

And to wind things down, we're pulling out Plop! #5's (February 1974) "Molded in Evil", scripted by George Kashdan.

Hope you enjoyed this year's tricks n treats, Groove-ophiles! Tomorrow it's back to normal (whatever that is), but Ol' Groove'll do his best to make it worth you while to join us!

Countdown to Halloween 2010! If You Blinked You Missed: Ray Rue

Ray Rue is a writer/artist with mad skills. In fact, the dude was totally mind-blowing, baby! Strange thing is, he only (as far as I know) did three stories in his all-too-brief comicbook career. Two for Heavy Metal during mid 1979, and this masterpiece of mood, "Lullaby of Bedlam" from Marvel's Epic Illustrated #1 (Spring 1980).

Countdown to Halloween 2010! Admiring Adams: "The World Cannot Wait for a Deadman"

How 'bout this, Groove-ophiles! A Deadman chiller (what's a Halloween Countdown without a ghost?) from Neal Adams' all-but-forgotten Deadman back-up series from Aquaman (issues 50-52)! This little mini-series was a bit of a departure for the Ghost of Boston Brand as it was more sci-fi oriented and tied into/ran parallel with the Aquaman lead feature from those self-same issues. Neat, huh? If ya ask really nice, I might post the other stories for ya, but for today here's Neal Adams and "The World Cannot Wait for a Deadman" from Aquaman #51 (February 1970)!

Okay, now, Groove-ophiles, some things just don't need much explanation. Today's post is one of those things. We're talking Don Glut, Jesse Santos, Dr. Spektor, and ZOMBIES, baby! Toss in a far-out title like "Bride of the Walking Dead" and you've got creepy comicbook bliss! It's Gold Key's Occult Files of Dr. Spektor #17 (July 1975), and it's all here for you!
