Black and White Wednesday: "Politics of Death!" by Mantlo, Perez, and Abel

HiiiYA, Groove-ophiles! Bill Mantlo, George Perez, and Jack Abel's "Politics of Death" (featuring the Sons of the Tiger, natch) is probably one of (if not THE) most violent stories Ol' Groove can remember reading during the Groovy Age (up there with the Punisher tales in Marvel Preview #2 and Marvel Super Action #1 and the Tiger-Man story in Thrilling Adventure Stories #1). Bullets and throwing stars fly, blood squirts, and jaws and necks get kicked around very, very hard. This one has a very authentic "kung fu flick" feel--gritty and hard boiled as any Sonny Chiba movie, baby. Let's carefully peel back the covers of Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #17 (September 1975)--but ya might wanna put on a flak jacket first...!

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Bill Mantlo and George Perez are back (with the help of inker Steve Gan) with the first part of a multi-issue epic featuring the Sons of the Tiger! This one's from Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #16 (August 1975--don't worry, you didn't miss anything from #15; that ish was a reprint/annual with no SoT in it)--here it comes!

HiiiiiiiYA, Groove-ophiles! We're back with another Sons of the Tiger adventure, this one featuring the Bruce Lee inspired SoT, Lin Sun. Some fine cosmic kung fu action goin' on in Bill Mantlo, George Perez, and Dan Adkins' "The Valley of Ancestors", baby! Let's go back to June 1975 to Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #14 and check it out!

Black and White Wednesday: "Death Is My Co-Star!" by Mantlo, Perez, and Abel

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #13 (May 1975) featured a solo-Sons of the Tiger outing for movie-star Tiger, Bob Diamond. Bill Mantlo's story focuses (I didn't do that on purpose) on Diamond's movie career with a gritty (sometimes gruesome), street-level mystery. Also of note are Jack Abel's inks over George Perez's pencils. Abel does some cool things with blacks and grays here. Oh, yeah, Lotus returns, too!
