Decent Comics: "The Secret of Mr. Tawny" by Bridwell, Newton, and Schaffenberger

Wotta coincidence, Groove-ophiles! Yesterday we had the "ultimate mutant" Alpha morphing into something-above-human. Today Doctor Weldon Ambrose does pretty much the same thing, but with a much different ending. And since the SHAZAM team is going for a bit more realistic look and feel than what had been previously associated with Captain Marvel and company, they attempt to make talking tiger Mr. Tawny a bit more realistic as well. Do they succeed? You decide!  From World's Finest Comics #259 (July 1979), check out "The Secret of Mr. Tawny" by E. Nelson Bridwell, Don Newton, and Kurt Schaffenberger!

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! One more twisted valentine headed your way before February is over: "The Courtship of Captain Nazi" from World's Finest Comics #258 (May 1979). This SHAZAM episode by E. Nelson Bridwell, Don Newton, and Kurt Schaffenberger  features Captain Marvel, Jr. and his arch enemy Captain Nazi with appearances by the Big Red Cheese and the good-looking Sivanhas, Magnificus and Beutia. Not quite an episode of The Love Boat, but here it is...

Holy Moley, Groove-ophiles! It's another episode of E. Nelson Bridwell, Don Newton, and Kurt Schaffenberger's SHAZAM! from World's Finest (issue 257, March 1979, that is)! Is there any possible way to make classic Captain Marvel villain Mister Mind cool? Ummm...no. But hey, Nelson, Don, and Kurt gave it the old college try with "The Invincible Man"! Check it out...

Decent Comics: "The Gamemaster's Death Wager!" by Bridwell, Newton, and Schaffenberger

Welcome  back for another Seventies Shazam! classic by E. Nelson Bridwell, Don Newton, and Kurt Schaffenberger! "The Gamemaster's Death Wager" is another meeting between Golden Age whimsy and 70s slickness which you either love or hate. It's also cool that they deal with (well, in a way--don't wanna spoil it) the fate Billy Batson's parents. From World's Finest #256 (January 1979), here is "The Gamemaster's Death Wager!"
