The Grooviest Covers of All Time: 13 from Dell's Ghost Stories

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Dell Comics, family friendly, tasteful, and so self-regulated that they didn't even need the Comics Code Authority turned out a few suspenseful and supernatural mags during the Groovy Age. One of their best was the simply titled Ghost Stories (which had begun in 1962). Those painted covers Dell was know for were turned into macabre masterpieces by artists even the mighty Grand Comics Database can't name, but man, whomever did 'em knew how to give a kid the shivers! Later, standard pencil and ink covers had their turn on Ghost Stories, with spooky covers mainly by Frank Springer (but Jack Sparling turned in a good'un, too). Marvel-ous Monday: "When a Galaxy Beckons..." by Friedrich, Springer, and Colletta

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We're back with another "Green Uniform" Captain Marvel tale! The creative team of Gary Friedrich, Frank Springer, and Vinnie Colletta get cosmic...and start working to--believe it or not--reverse the Mar-Vell's previous cosmic upgrade! Not only that, but the ish officially ties into a storyline that crosses in and out of Sub-Mariner #14 and Avengers #64 (see page 3 for details), and features Marv vs. Iron Man (thanks to the evil machinations of The Puppet Master)! From Captain Marvel #14 (March 1969)...what'cha gonna do..."When a Galaxy Beckons..."?

Marvel-ous Monday: "Traitors or Heroes?" by G. Friedrich, Springer, and Colletta

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! With Captain Marvel #13 (February 1969), Gary Friedrich took over the writing chores for a few issues, continuing Mar-Vell's ongoing battle with the robotic Man-Slayer. Frank Springer steps in as penciler for a couple issues, with Vinnie Colletta inking. In "Traitors or Heroes?" we also get a slug-out between Marv and Col. Yon-Rogg, and Carol Danvers gets a pretty big role--as a damsel-in-distress (it would be a while before she'd become a super-hero, herself, gang).
