Black and White Wednesday: Savage Sword of Conan #14

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Today let's spend some time with a fave mag--Savage Sword of Conan #14 (June 1976). Roy Thomas was a master of putting together magnificent black and white comic mags, and because of that Savage Sword was always a high-quality read 'cause Roy only accepted the best of the best in art. For example...
...an Earl Norem cover...

...a frontispiece by Frank Brunner and Steve Leialoha

...a lead feature by Neal Adams, Tony DeZuniga, and the Tribe...

...spot illos by folks like Michael Whelen...
...and Michael Kaluta...

...and back-up art by Mike Zeck!

(Just noticed--lotta Mike's in that line-up!) Thanks for the fun afternoon and the great memories, Roy!

  1. That was the first SSOC that I owned. Not a bad way to start. It definitely wasn't the last one.

  2. Hey Groovy one!
My favorite day of the week on your site. Has always been b & w wednesdays. Great stories by rasically Roy & gorgeous art! How can you beat that! Especially when the pages were full of beautiful babes & non stop action! Just wish I could had went to those comic conventions in the 70's-mid 80's. To meet Big John Buscema & Tony Dezuniga. Atleast I got to know Tony by phone & e-mails. Sad were losing all the greats to time.

  3. This was the first issue of SSOC that I bought as a back issue (mainly for the Adams art)and I remember reading that Soloman Kane Werewolf story over & over again as I thought the art by Mike Zeck was terrific!

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
