Groovy Age Splash Page of the Week
Groovy Age Spotlight On...Ol' Groove's Blue Moon Comics (Again)!
Yes, Groove-ophiles, it's time once again for Ol' Groove to show off his latest self-published comics! Like many of you, I spent nearly as much of my time during the Groovy Age hunched over typing paper, pencil in hand, making my own comics with one goal in mind: to work in the comics industry. I can't remember a time when my dream wasn't to make my own comics. I have had some luck in the past couple decades, but I have to tell you, right now I'm having the time of my life as a self publisher. I'm writing stories in all kinds of genres (anything I wanna write!) and collaborating with so many excellent artists (Russ Martin, JW Erwin, Joe Koziarski, Greg Rieves, and Ian Groff this time around) who are all fab-a-mundo plotters and storytellers besides being princes of pencils and pens!
Of course, my main aim in making the comics is to capture the feel of what turned me on back in the Groovy Age. The variety of genres. The fun, sometimes silly stories. The little things that seem to have fallen by the wayside with today's comics like done-in-one stories; thought balloons, captions from ye olde omniscient author, blurbs and word balloons on the covers--ya know, the fun, comicbook-y stuff!
I've been fortunate enough to be able to team with several like-minded, highly talented artists to create Diversions, which is now on its second issue and available from IndyPlanet, DriveThru Comics, and Comichaus. Dig this cover, featuring the lead feature, Guns & Rosa, by G&R artist Joe Koziarski!
Besides a stand-alone story starring Rosa continuing her personal brand of revenge and justice...
Diversions #2 also takes on another trip to Other Worlds where, with the help of artist Greg Rieves, we learn the shocking story of the world-conquering creature called "Kra-Kaduum!"
But wait, there's more! Issue #2 introduces a brand new mystery/horror feature, Mister Eeee's Vault of Shadows! Artist Ian Groff helps me tell the spooky tale of a man and his shadow in "Wayne's Shadow!"
Finally, it wouldn't be an issue of Diversions without a new Night Spider adventure! This time JW Erwin and I bring you the first of two part mystery/adventure--"The Case of the Kidnapped CSE!"
Four stories in one mag! Is it any wonder we've dubbed Diversions "A Spinner Rack Between Two Covers"?
Not only is Diversions #2 ready for your reading pleasure, but so is Ash-Aman Special Edition #1, which collects all four chapters of the Ash-Aman saga that ran in Will Lill's Fun Adventure Comics! 7-10 back in the summer of 2018.
If you missed that savage, cosmic saga back then, or if you just wanna read the whole thing in one mag, then here you go! All 32 pages of that magnificent Russ Martin art carefully compiled between two covers is a mind-boggling pleasure to say the least!
Don't take my word for it; just dig what Max at Max Reads Comics has to say: "This is Blue Moon Comics' epic saga of cosmic power and ultimate tragedy! Really, this is great stuff." (You can read Max's full review of both Diversions #2 and Ash-Aman Special Edition #1 right here if you'd like.)
Ash-Aman Special Edition #1 is available on IndyPlanet, DriveThru Comics, Comichaus, and ComiXology, too!
Ol' Groove would truly appreciate your support in this dream-come-true Blue Moon Comics endeavor. We have a lot more cool stories, art, and characters to come! And, if you have read any of these mags, we'd love to hear what you thought!
Until next week, Pax!
