MOKF Monday: "Like a God Weeping Fire" by Moench, Zeck, and Day

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! As we thrill to Shang-Chi and company's ever deepening and deadly march toward all-out war with Fu Manchu, courtesy Doug Moench, Mike Zeck, and Gene Day, natch, let's just put into context just how powerful Mighty Marvel was at the time Master of Kung Fu #82 was published. In August 1979, Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz were giving us new Moon Knight tales in the back of The Hulk! magazine, Bill Mantlo and Michael Golden were at the helm of The Micronauts, Project: Pegasus was winding down in Marvel Two-In-One, David Michelinie, John Romita Jr., and Bob Layton trapped Iron Man in The Devil in the Bottle storyline, Roger McKenzie and Frank Miller were transforming Daredevil, and Chris Claremont and John Byrne were gearing up for The Dark Phoenix Saga in X-Men. T'was a great time to be a Marvellite, baby!

Making a Splash: Mike Ploog's Kull the Destroyer

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! For a short-but-sweet time, Marvel's Monster-Master, Mike Ploog, took over the penciling chores of Kull the Destroyer (11-15, August 1973-May 1974), and man, was it dyn-o-mite! Wanna see for yourself? You got it, baby!

And yeah, a couple'a those pages aren't splashes--but, man, aren't they far-out?

Ol' Groove's Request Line: "The Revenge of the Spider-Witch" by Fleisher and Boyette

Ever since Ol' Groove posted this article about Atlas/Seaboard's Tarantula series in Weird Suspense, many of you out there in Groove City have been clamoring for more. Who'da thunk ya'd love that big, hairy Count Lycosa so much? Well, ask and here ya go! From Weird Suspense #2 (January 1975), here are co-creators Michael Fleisher and Pat Boyette with "The Revenge of the Spider-Witch!" Dig it!

Black and White Wednesday: "The Blood Sacrifice of Amanda Saint!" by McGregor, Buckler, and Marcos

HoOOOOOOWWWWWW's it goin', Groove-ophiles! Ol' Groove had planned to run this, the second solo Morbius saga from Vampire Tales (#2,July 1973), a bit later, but since it's the first of October...the Hallo-weenie in me took charge and said, "Run it now!" So here we are with "The Blood Sacrifice of Amanda Saint!" written by Don McGregor (who'd write the rest of Morbius' strips in VP) with incredible art by Rich Buckler, inked by last issue's artist, Pablo Marcos! Mind you, this is the first chapter in an ongoing serial, so we're gonna leave ya hangin'--but Morbius'll be back if y'ask real nice!
