Admiring Adams: Little Known Early DC Covers
Back in the dawn of the Groovy Age, when Neal Adams came on the scene at DC, they put him on a few strips (Deadman in Strange Adventures, Batman team-ups in Brave and the Bold, Superman/Batman in World's Finest, lots of mystery stories for House of Mystery, the Unexpected, and the rest), but they really worked him on their covers. The entire Superman Family of comics, Batman, Detective, Adventure, World's Finest, Tomahawk, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, the mystery comics, and even the romance comics. Here are a few very early, very cool Adams covers from the late 1960s--including Neal's first DC Cover! Can you guess which one it is? (I'm presenting the covers in random order, so no hints from me!)

Grooviest Covers of All Time: Christmas Treasure(ies)
Back in the mid-70s, Marvel and DC started putting out those huge, tabloid-sized (10 x 13") comics we've come to call "tabloid" or "treasury" comics. One of the coolest things they did was produce special Christmas editions reprinting superhero comics with Christmas themes--or at least stories that were published during December. (Yep, that's Ol' Groove's inspiration for what I've been doing this month!) Just for fun, let's take a look at those beauties , shall we? (Scans courtesy the wonderful Treasury Comics website--check it out for lots of cool trivia behind these--and nearly all--Treasury-sized comics!)
First up, a Nick Cardy masterpiece from 1974 (Limited Collectors' Edition #34)...
Next, a Curt Swan gem from 1975 (Limited Collectors' Edition #43)...
Jolly John Buscema and the Marvel heroes step into Christmas in this classic from 1974 (Marvel Treasury Special #1)...
More far-out festivities courtesy Jazzy John Romita from 1975 (Marvel Treasury Edition #8)...

And finally, Groovy Gil Kane jingles our bells with this 1976 masterpiece (Marvel Treasury Edition #13)...

The 13 Gravest Superhero Covers of the Groovy Age
Welcome, Groove-ophiles. Thank you for coming. There are some seats down front for the latest edition of...
What better place to celebrate Halloween than in a cemetery? Back in the Groovy Age, graves and tombstones popped up on a lot more covers than you might think (Comics Code notwithstanding). Of course you'd expect to see 'em on the horror/mystery mags, but what about on the superhero comics? Wonder no more, baby! Here are thirteen covers in which some of our favorite heroes try not to step on each others' graves...Hope you dig 'em! (Hey, put that shovel down!!)

The Grooviest Covers of All Time #2
Another of the grooviest comicbook covers of all time, Giant-Size Super-Stars #1 (and only!). There are plenty of great Thing vs. Hulk covers out there, but this one is different. For once--the Thing is winning! Or is he? Remind Ol' Groove to do an article on GSSS #1 sometime. There's a lot more to this legendary issue than the fantabulous Rich Buckler/Joe Sinnott cover. But for now, it's enough. Ain't it a beaut?
