Marvel-ous Mondays: "The Vampire Machine" by Englehart, Sutton, and Mooney

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! 'Neath a captivating cover by Gil Kane and Jim Mooney lies a new (to Groove City, at least) adventure of Hank McCoy, aka the bludgeoning Beast! "The Vampire Machine" by Steve Englehart, Tom Sutton, and Jim Mooney pits our furry and freaky hero against one of Marvel's strangest villains--the computerized Quasimodo! Plus we have cameos by Iron Man and Patsy Walker, romance, intrigue, a touch of horror, and tons o'super-heroic action! From Amazing Adventures #14 (July 1972), prepare to face..."The Vampire Machine"!

  1. The entire Englehart/Sutton run of the Beast in Amazing Adventures was what great comics are all about. Don't know why it failed saleswise. Fortunately Steve refused to give up on our furry ex-X-Man and, with a color change to blue, integrated him into the Avengers where he became the integral part of the Marvel Universe he is to this day.

  2. I much prefer The Beast in his dark blue hue, more mysterious and dangerous looking. As for this series, I loved it but it seemed to have a different art team every issue, a different look each time. It's hard to build momentum with that kind of service, regardless of the talent of men like Tom Sutton, Bob Brown, Mike Ploog, Tom Verpoorten, Syd Shores, Frank McLaughlin and others.
