Random Reads: "The Dream Killers" by Kanigher and the Redondo Studios

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Here's a classic Ragman tale by co-creator Robert Kanigher and the Redondo Studio--topped off by an amazing Joe (the other co-creator) Kubert! From Ragman #4 (November 1976), prepare to meet..."The Dream Killers"! Dig it!!

  1. I've seen this before somewhere, and it's a great story by Kanigher and Kubert (and it's got an incredible crime noir element which Kubert was known for, among other things), but I'm not familiar with Redondo Studio. What was that, exactly?

    1. From the DC Comics Database ( http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page ), here's the best info I've found on the Redondo Studio: "The precise composition of Redondo Studios has never been revealed, though it is known to consist of associates of Nestor Redondo. The Studio employed many Filipino artists, who would collaborated on several DC horror, jungle and war titles in the mid-1970s.

Possible Studio members include: Tony Caravana, Frank "Quico" Redondo, Vicatan and Noly Zamora"

  2. Wonderful - you can never go wrong with Ragman. If I recall correctly, doesn't this issue also have a short dialogue-free back-up story drawn by Kubert?

  3. In 1977 the Redondo Studio was commissioned by Opens Doors to illustrate a comic book called MARX, LENIN, MAO, & CHRIST---comparing and contrasting Socialism and Communism with the tenets of the Bible in an era when the Iron (and Bamboo) Curtain oppressed countless numbers of people in different nations. Long out of print, it is now available again under my Calvary Comics imprint with the original publisher's full endorsement. Preview pages of this title can be seen here:
