Black and White Wednesday: "Cosmic Headache" by Cuti, Potts, Beekman, and Davis

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! Today's sci-fi shocker, "Cosmic Headache", from Charlton's Space: 1999 b&w mag features a far-out art team (no doubt courtesy Continuity Associates--note the obvious Neal Adams influence throughout): Carl Potts, Doug Beekman, and Ed Davis! Potts is best known as a writer/artist/editor for Marvel in the 80s, as well as for creating Alien Legion. Beekman was a well-regarded sci-fi paperback cover artist in the 70s/80s, and did tons of Savage Sword of Conan covers for Marvel. Davis is still a mystery-man in these parts, but the little bit of comics work he did was always high-quality stuff! If that weren't enuff, this particular tale was written by Groove City fave Nick Cuti! Don't that make ya feel all jazzy inside?

  1. That "I am Orkus!" splash page sure calls to mind the Wrightson cover for HOUSE OF MYSTERY #204 from 1972. Still effective.

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
