Remember When...Hawkman's History Could Be Summarized in Four Pages?

What's happening, Groove-ophiles! Here's a short and sweet trip down memory lane. Long before infinite 52 week long identity invasion crises took over the majority of DC's output, Hawkman was one of their coolest, if more under-appreciated, characters. Over a quarter century of "house cleaning" has made Hawkman's history denser and more complicated than War and Peace translated into Klingon pig-Latin, but back during the Groovy Age Katar Hol's whole history could be summed up in 4 succinct pages--and that's no jive! Here your proof, provided by Bob Rozakis, Ed Barretto, and Dave Simons from World's Finest #261 (November 1979)...

  1. Hey Groovster!
I'd vote for you to run DC comics! Those guys are so lost, they should be put on that island on LOST & left there, then canceled! LOL, I can't wait to see their latest & lampest gimmick to try & make a cheap buck!

I can see it now! The Big event to end all big events! Okay until next years Big Event tops this one! Identity Crisis II!! All the different versions of all their characters get into a battle royal on DCTV Superhero Death Match refereed by none other then Dr."I'm So Confused" Phil! Played by Sweathog Vinnie" Sat Night I think I got a fever" Barbarino! SSShheesshhh! Now watch DC use that! Somebody ask Mr.Kotter/The Groovy One what's what? Because we at DC sure don't any more! LOL

  2. These days, Hawkman's 4-page secret origin would be expanded into a series of 5 TPBs to be bound into a hardcover omnibus with 20 pages of Joe Kubert sketches and 40 variant covers. (Although with the right artistic team, I'd give it a read!)

So Groove, I am having a heck of a time trying to pre-order Daring Adventures #1. (Yes, I want the real deal, dude, not just the digital version.) Did you sell out already? Site keeps telling me 'not available in selected quantities' which was quantity 1.

  4. Items like this are a great reminder of just how much better DC's stuff was prior to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, which wasn't a bad little story but, as far as I'm concerned, created far more problems with regards to characters and continuity than it was purportedly design to correct. But that's just me...

  5. I have kidded the hawkman in the past because in the justice league with superman and the martian manhunter being able to fly seems a bit small on the power side. On his own though he was super cool.
