Happy Halloween, Groove-ophiles! Groovy Age Master of the Macabre, Berni Wrightson sure created some memorable supernatural splashes (and fearsome frontispieces, too), didn't he? Here are 13 of Ol' Groove's faves (in no particular order) from DC's House of Mystery, House of Secrets, and Warren's Creepy! How's that for a treat, tricksters?

Special thanks to Mike's Amazing World of Comics and Grand Comics Database for being such fantastic resources for covers, dates, creator info, etc. Thou art treasures true!

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!

Love Berni W. at his best, and this is indeed fearsomely memorable and a treat, Groove, so thanks.

Man, these are just ... spectacular (ha! Bet you thought I was going to say spooktacular, didn't you?)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, happy Halloween, Groove!
I never knew when I would pick up a HOM or HOS and be treated to a Berni Wrightson frontispiece. And what a treat it was. Better than the candy at Halloween.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely astounding! I would love to have some original artwork by Wrightson. The closest I've gotten is a signed sketchbook.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! More Wrightson!
ReplyDeleteIs there ever such a thing as too much Berni Wrightson art?
ReplyDeleteNo, my friends, I don't think so.
Thank you for this great sampling.
