Making a Splash: Marvel Comics March, 1977

Here are 32 splash pages from 32 years ago this month! Get a load of who was writing and drawing our favorite Marvel mags. Thomas, Wolfman, Wein, Gerber, Moench, Mantlo, Claremont, Goodwin, Kirby, Kane, the Brothers Buscema, Cockrum, Perez, Byrne, Simonson, Giffen, Starlin, Pollard--Marvel was lookeeng goo-hood, man!

As you can see, some of these pages are from some mildly magnificent Marvel milestones, Groove-ophiles! See if you can guess which of these issues will be spotlighted in the weeks and months to come!

  1. I was buying way more comics back then than I realized: I remember most of these! And there are indeed a number of milestones in there, including a couple of my favorite Avengers tales, a stack of great Kirby work, and the X-Men issue you've already featured.

  2. Good eyes, RAB! The two Avengers stories and the Kirby work will be spotlighted eventually. The X-Men issue is indeed the one I used for this past Saturday's Super Smack-Down.

Anyone else notice any other goodies up there?

  3. I remember buying Nova #10, Iron Man #99 and Marvel Premire #36 on the spinner rack at the local liquor store. Good memories. Love your site !

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
