Saturday Super Smack-Down: Phoenix vs. Firelord

Welcome back, fight fans! Today's bout is a full-on, cosmically-powered battle of the sexes. From X-Men #105 (March 1977) it's the former Marvel Girl, Jean Gray aka Phoenix vs. former herald of Galactus, Firelord! A bit of back-story on this pyro-telekinetic free-for-all: Princess Lilandra of the Shi'ar finally arrives on earth looking for help from Professor X and the X-Men...Firelord has been duped by the villainous Eric the Red, also of the Shi'ar, into trying to capture Lilandra for him...Timing is everything, as Lilandra shows up right smack in the middle of Jean's family get-together...

...with Firelord is right behind her...

But you don't mess with a Phoenix dinner party, baby!

Our combatants take to the skies, ready for a cosmic collision...

Phoenix lets Firelord have it...

...not even writer Chris Claremont and artist Dave Cockrum are safe from the punishment Phoenix plants upon Firelord's person! Yowch!!

That should've been a K.O., fans, but the Power Cosmic will not be denied! Firelord is back up and ready for retribution! He let's loose with all the power of his blazing baton, but...

--no good! Here comes the telekinetic coupe de grace!

And your winnah by twelve miles...PHOENIX!
