Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Let's kick this week off right with a superior sci-fi spectacular by Cary Bates and Michael Wm. Kaluta. "The Man Who Cheated Time" is one of Kaluta's earliest pro jobs, but dang, don't it look great? Writer Bates rarely fails to deliver on a cool story, and this Fabulous World of Krypton back-up from Superman #240 (May 1971) still has it's kick for moi. What say you, Groove-ophiles?

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!

There's an earlier short story called "The House of Ghlaglan" which Kaluta drew for HOUSE OF SECRETS #87, cover dated September, 1970, which I'd love to see again if you have it.

Some of these backups were better than the main story. I would love to see a TPB of these krypton stories. Sadly, I guess it won't happen.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that's "House of Ghaglan."
