Groove's Faves: "Let Loose the Hounds of War...!" by Conway, Newton, and Adkins

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! It's been a while since we dug on Gerry Conway and Don Newton's Return of the New Gods (a not-bad-at-all series, sadly forgotten by most--read more about it here), so Ol' Groove thought it was high-time we took a look at Conway and Newton's (along with inker Dan Adkins) swingin' second ish--which is, naturally, numbered 13 (May 1977). Newton's art is about as un-Jack Kirby-like as you can get, but doggoned if he didn't have his own, unique way of presenting the power and majesty of New Genesis...and the darkness and depravity of Apokolips! Check out..."Let Loose the Hounds of War...!"

  1. Once upon a time, I had this issue. Got it 2nd-hand, maybe even 3rd-hand, actually. To think that the New Gods would be brought back a couple more times after this.....

  2. I had totally forgot about this series
..All Star talent ... Great Kirby-esque cover by Milgrom - thank you for posting
