Funny Stuff: "Badger's Baby Brother--Beastley!" by Drake and Adams

Good evening, Groove-ophiles! Groovy (You Won't Believe What I've Dug Up This Time) Agent here with an eeeeaaarrrrly Neal Adams job for DC Comics on (in case you couldn't guess) Adventures of Bob Hope (#106, June 1967). This wild and wacky tale features the (almost) legendary Super-Hip, as well as a group of Universal Monsters parodies. Author Arnold Drake's story is over-the-top wacky, loaded with sight gags, pratfalls, and snappy patter. It's Adams' art that really steals the show--as usual. Prepare to meet Bob, Super-Hip, Dr. Van Pyre, Frank N. Stein, and most of all... "Badger's Baby Brother--Beastley!"

Funny Stuff: "What a Night for a Knight!" by Jack Manning

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! My grandkids are getting into the classic Scooby Doo cartoons, so I'm posting "What a Night for a Knight!" (with art by Jack Manning, adapted from the cartoon show's pilot episode) for them. I do so hope you dig it, too! From Gold Key's Scooby Doo #1 (December 1969)…

Random Reads: "The Isle of the Dead"

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! "The Isle of the Dead" was the cover feature for Gold Key's Twilight Zone #53 (September 1973). It's a creepy and cool story, and in true Twilight Zone fashion--its creators are mysterious as well. I've done some research, and have found the artists for the other features in TZ #53 (Adolpho Buylla, Luis Dominguez, and Jack Abel), but have found nuttin' for this ghostly gem. Oh, well, enjoy the mystery as you spend a few moments...in the Twilight Zone!

Thanksgiving Feast 2017! "Why So Pale, Henry Lad?" by Celardo and "Burnt Offerings" by Barr and Delbo

To all our Groove-ophiles in the U.S.: Happy Thanksgiving! To the rest of ya: Happy Thursday! Today's the day we feast on fun comics that were released during November during the Groovy Age! Every 6 hours today, Ol' Groove is gonna unleash comicbook goodies upon yer waiting eyes and brain! Are you ready? Then here we go!

We're starting our 2017 feast with a double-shot of sci-fi fun! "Why So Pale, Henry Lad?" was written by an unidentified Gold Key author and gloriously illustrated by John Celardo (who drew many a cool Batman tale in the later 70s) for Twilight Zone #54 (November 1973)...

For Thanksgiving in 1980 DC's revived Mystery In Space #116 gave us an extremely cool cover by Jim Starlin with a cool Mike W. Barr story illustrated by Groovy Age DC mainstay Jose Delbo. Here's hoping your Thanksgiving meal doesn't include any..."Burnt Offerings!"
