Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, Groove-ophiles! Since today's all about hearts and flowers, Ol' Groove thought he'd share a beauty of a romance tale with ya! It's a beauty 'cause it's illustrated by the unusual team of Gene Colan and Sal Buscema! Methinks their styles went quite well together on the Stan Lee scripted "How Do We Know When It's Really Love?" from Our Love Story #4 (January 1970). Yeah, you could say the story is corny and dated in it's 1960s jet-set flick-inspired way, but that's part of it's appeal, imho. Ain't Valentine's Day kinda corny (in a sweet way) and about... dates (kinda)…? Okay, I'll shut up and let ya enjoy the purty pitchures…

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Yesterday was Valentine's Day, and since we don't post on Sunday (anymore) we'll make up for missing Valentine's Day today with a short-shocker from Haunted Love #6 (July 1974). Now, we can make up for missing Valentine's Day here in Groove City--but if you missed it, you might not have a ghost of a chance to make up with your sweetheart...unless you share a haunting tale of LUV with her... like..."The Vanishing Wreck" by Joe Gill and Fred Himes...

The Grooviest Covers of All Time: Lois Just Wants to Get Married

That's all Ol' Groove can say about these covers, baby. During the early Groovy Age, before she got heavily into Women's Lib (and let's face it, even after), Superman's Girlfriend just wanted to be somebody's wife. Lois didn't seem to care whose wife, just so long as she got a ring! I mean...the Devil? Sheesh! At least we had guys like Neal Adams, Curt Swan, Dick Giordano, and Bob Oksner to draw these kooky-kool kovers!

Happy Valentine's Day, Groove-ophiles! To celebrate the day, we're gonna take a look at one'a those "mushy" Supergirl stories from the 70s. You know, the kind that has her kissing a guy on the cover--like this one by Bob Oksner from Supergirl #6 (June 1973)...

Well, okay, exactly like that one, 'cause we're gonna be sharing the lead feature, "--In Love and War" by Arnold Drake, Art Saaf, and Vinnie Colletta! It's Romeo and Juliet in the 70s with capes! It's West Side Story without the music but with heat-vision (nice trade)! But it ain't Romeo + Juliet--no way!
