Black and White Wednesday: "The Inrorrigible Teen Hulk the Origin!" by Hama, M. Severin, Pellowski, and Targatlione

Dig it, Groove-ophiles: do any of ya remember the Teen Hulk feature that ran in Crazy Magazine from issues 60-94 (well, most of 'em)? Chester Weems and his big green alter ego actually debuted on the inside back cover of Crazy #59 (December 1979) as an ad (warning?). Check it out:

What made Larry Hama and Marie Severin create such a kooky character? Just, urm, crazy, one might guess. Remember this was during the time when the Incredible Hulk was doing well on the boob tube, so that could'a had something to do with it, too. Was Teen Hulk to have been part of a Hulk Family (She-Hulk made her debut a month earlier than TH, don'tcha know)? Probably not, but whatever the reason, some of us can't get enough Hulk! Or can we? Read the debut tale written by Mike Pellowski with art by Marie Severin and John Tartaglione, then let Ol' Groove know whether or not you're ready so say "uncle"!

Dig it, Groove-ophiles. Ol' Groove is pretty sure we've made it perfectly clear that we dig, love, groove to, get turned on by, and enjoy planting our peepers on the awesome artistry of John Byrne. We've dug up some art that you might not be aware of...and Mr. Byrne might want to forget. But hey, everyone's gotta start somewhere, and no matter how rough or crude the following illos may seem, Ol' Groove sees sparks of originality, an unmatched enthusiasm, a fun style, and a superstar-diamond-in-the-rough...

The Boys from Derby: "Curiosity Killed the Cat" by Pellowski and Zeck

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! It's two, two, two Mike's in one short shocker! "Curiosity Killed the Cat" was written by Mike Pellowski and illoed by the marvelous Mike Zeck! Let's truck on back to July 1976, snatch The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #59 off the swingin' spinner rack, and let the fantasy begin!

Addicted to Alex Nino: "Museum of Murder!" by Pellowski, Kanigher, and Nino

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Let's dig on  a chiller with killer artwork by the one and only Alex Nino! "Museum of Murder!" is an offbeat story for House of Mystery (issue 256, October 1977 to be exact) for a couple reasons: it has two writers (plotter Mike Pellowski and scripter Robert Kanigher) and a single panel non-splash page (story page 4). Now those things wouldn't normally seem too out of place in a full-length tale, but in a nine page featurette? The genius of Nino! Check it out...

The Boys from Derby: "Brain Fever" by Pellowski and Sutton

HoooOOOOOOOw's it going, Groove-ophiles! Time for a vampiric visit from The Boys from Derby, this one from Haunted #27 (February 1976). "Brain Fever" was written by Mike Pellowski and illustrated by Tom Sutton, and man, is it every a wild one! And just 'cause Ol' Groove loves ya, baby, I'm tossing in Sutton's captivating cover! Hoo-ha!

The Boys from Derby: "The Grass Is Always Greener" by Pellowski and Vosburg

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Here's a charmingly wacky fear-fable from Creepy Things #3 (September 1975)! "The Grass Is Always Greener" was written by Mike Pellowski and illustrated by Mike (Starfire) Vosburg! T'was the cover story--and what a cover Tom Sutton provided for that particular ish (my scans are from the Modern Comics reprint, you'll note)!
