Black and White Wednesday: "Have You Ever Seen the Black Rain?" by Hewetson and Xirinius

HoOOOw's it shakin', Groove-ophiles! Ready to shiver (and not from the cold)? Here's a Horror-Mood masterpiece of the macabre as only Archaic Al Hewetson could deliver (complete with a CCR song-title reference). "Have You Ever Seen the Black Rain?" from Psycho #8 (cover-dated September 1972) was illustrated by the multi-talented Spanish artist Xirinius (aka Jaime Juez Castella), who, at the time this story was published, had already notched nearly fifty years of published art experience under his belt!

Check it out, Groove-ophiles...a cool, kooky, and mostly silent shocker that could have actually fit into an ish of DC's PLOP!--but was, instead, published in Skywald's Psycho #16 (cover dated January 1974)! For some reason, whenever I "read" Al Hewetson (writing as Harvey Lazarus) and Fernando Rubio's "The Thing In the Box!" I keep hearing Phil Harris singing in my head. Wonder why...?

Black and White Wednesday: "A Coffin for Captain Cutlass" by Fox and Moren

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Didja ever just sit and ponder things like..." Were there any good horror/pirate stories back in the Groovy Age?" Yeah, Ol' Groove does, too. Oh, the answer? The answer is affirmative, baby! Way back in Skywald's Psycho #3 (cover date May 1971), Golden Age Great Gardner Fox teamed with artist Serge Moren to give us just such a story, "A Coffin for Captain Cutlass." Innit outtasite?
