Black and White Wednesday: The Art of Haunt of Horror #2

Oops! Ol' Groove goofed again! Back during Halloween Countdown 2010, Ol' Groove shared the awesome art from marvel's prose digest Haunt of Horror #1 with ya and promised to do the same with the art from HoH #2 in 2011. Well, for some reason that didn't happen, but today I'm making amends! The second ish of Haunt of Horror (Summer 1973) might've been the final prose digest ish (it would soon return as a standard b&w comic mag), but boy did editor Gerry Conway send it off with a bang! Stories by Denny O'Neil, Arthur Byron Cover, Harlan Ellison, Fritz Leiber, Ann McCaffrey, Ron Goulart, and more? Art by John Buscema, Walt Simonson, Dan Green, Frank Brunner, Kelly Freas, and Billy Graham? What a mag, baby--what a mag! Wanna take a peek inside...?

Happy Halloween, Groove-ophiles!

Oh, Alfredo! "A Rejection from Cain" and "This Little Witch Went to Market" by Pellowski, Kashdan, and Alcala

HOOOOOOOOOw's it goin, Groove-ophiles! One more day 'til Halloween, so Ol' Groove thought you might dig a two-fer from PLOP! #3 (October 1973) featuring gorgeously ghoulish, goofy, and groovy art by the great Alfredo Alcala. First up, here's how some writers might've handled..."A Rejection from Cain", according to author Mike Pellowski... we have "This Little Witch Went to Market", written by the uber-talented George Kashdan!

How's that for a pre-Halloween treat, baby?

Groove's Faves: "Gargoyle Every Night" by Thomas and Wrightson

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! From the Forgotten Files of Fear, Ol' Groove has dug up a reprint from Giant-Size Chillers #3 (May 1975) of Berni Wrightson's Marvel Comics debut way back in Chamber of Darkness #7 (July 1970). Co-written by Wrightson and Roy Thomas, this macabre masterpiece was Plopping before Plop ever Plopped its first Plop!
