The Boys from Derby: "Pool Shark" by Pellowski and Staton

Y'know, Groove-ophiles, when Charlton's Haunted #21 came out in January 1975, Jaws was "just" a best selling novel by Peter Benchley. The famous flick of the same name wasn't released until June 20 of that same year. Boys from Derby Mike Pellowski and Joe Staton must have smelled something in the sea-water, though, and produced this short sharker--er shocker. Be careful, baby! Ya don't wanna have to deal with a..."Pool Shark"!

  1. I remember seeing the example in this story of why the word "flick" was banned in comics.

Note the "fuck of the wrist".

That aside, I've always loved Staton's work, particularly his layouts, and the touch of Bodè-esque roundness to everything (which he moved away from in his later superhero work).

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
