Groovy Age Gold: "The Lady and the Tiger" by Simon and Kirby

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! Here's another magnificent Golden Age Manhunter saga from Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. This particular tale was originally told in Adventure Comics #78 (September 1942) and was reprinted in New Gods #9 (April 1972). Notice how S&K rarely showed Manhunter's face in this story--and when they did, his mask kept changing! O Editor, Where Art Thou?

  1. I remember these reprints in the back of various Fourth World titles (Newsboy Legion stories were reprinted in Jimmy Olsen, I think). I think it was the first time I saw the Simon/Kirby collaborations, and I have to say, the more I see these the more I like them (not even bothered by that changing mask in this story); in particular, I think Simon was really Kirby's best inker/finisher.

  2. I loved all these Golden & Atomic age reprints. Both published by DC & Marvel. I loved seeing the Golden Age heroes. The National/DC ones I liked the most were the gas mask, trench coat wearing Sandman. The Guardian & JSA. Any chance to see any GA Daredevil stories? I only remember seeing him in Jim Steranko's beautiful History of Comic volumes. That I was lucky enough to buy at Milwaukee's first LCBS. That I was working at at the age of 9 or 10.
