Sunday Funnies: Popeye and the Secrik Weapon

First of all, if you've never heard of Popeye, welcome to Planet Earth. Hope you enjoy your stay. The reason Ol' Groove picked this particular Popeye page-turner is to celebrate one of my greatest Thanksgiving Memories. Thanksgiving, 1975 (just short of a year before this issue of Popeye was published) was the my introduction to the CB radio. The fad was just taking off and my Grandpa had a brand new one. While the rest of the family was watching ballgames or whatever, Young Groove was meeting new and exciting people with names like the Snowman, Lady Wildcat, Diamond Girl, and Papa Bear. Yeah, I was hooked (thanks Grandpa--er--Stoveleg!) so bad that my folks got me my own CB radio for Christmas. Ah, those were the days...

So here's a CB-centric Popeye tale by veteran Charlton editor, CB enthusiast, and cartoonist extraordinaire George Wildman, from Popeye #10 (October, 1976). Go ahead and read it there, good buddy. Ol' Groove'll be 10-10 and on the side.

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
